About Willie Ross
School for the Deaf
The
Willie Ross School is one of the most uniquely
organized schools for deaf and hard-of-hearing
students in the United States, and it has
an ambitious mission and a rich history. The
focus of the school, since its founding by
parents in 1967, has been on providing quality
programs and services to the students that
it serves. Willie Ross has always invested
in student programs before facilities and
has long acknowledged that its human resources
are the most precious resource that it possesses.
The
School has frequent professional opportunities
for those interested in working with the students
served by the school. At the Longmeadow Campus,
deaf students are immersed in the instructional
process with other deaf and hard-of-hearing
students. All young children begin school
at this campus, and programs provided are
early childhood, primary, elementary, middle,
and high school. The School's Partnership
Campus is in an adjacent suburban community,
where Willie Ross School has classrooms at
an elementary school, the middle school, and
the high school, providing opportunities for
students mainstreaming at all levels with
age-appropriate hearing peers.
Professional
qualifications include knowledge of Chapter
766 and IDEA. A resumé, evidence
of licensure as a teacher of the deaf (or
other appropriate licensure), sign language
proficiency, and three letters of reference
are required for any professional application.

The School has a Longmeadow Campus for students
in the following programs: early childhood,
primary, elementary, middle, and high school.
The Longmeadow Campus serves students ages
2.9 through 22 years of age. Programs that
are offered on the Campus represent a continuum
of services and opportunities for students.
The School has a Partnership Campus in an
adjacent suburban community. Willie Ross School
has classrooms at an elementary school, the
middle school, and the high school. These
programs provide opportunities for inclusion
at all levels.
