April 18, 2011 - Amy Fremgen, a teacher at the Willie Ross School for the Deaf, has won an Excellence in Teaching Award sponsored by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation and other area organizations that form the Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award program.
The Enfield, Connecticut resident has been teaching for 17 years and the past 10 years at Willie Ross where she serves as the lead teacher at the Willie Ross Partnership Campus at East Longmeadow High School. Ms. Fremgen has worked on curriculum development and is also involved in supervision of Willie Ross high school teachers in the area of student progress reports and Individual Education Plan development.
According to Gregory DeLisle, Director of Education Services for Willie Ross School for the Deaf, “Our students and our school are fortunate to have someone of Amy’s talent. The fact she is involved in so many aspects of the education of our students, from the classroom to curriculum development, is a testimony to her skill as an educator. This acknowledgment from esteemed community organizations that are behind the award is something all of us at Willie Ross value highly.”
Ms. Fremgen will be honored with other winners at the Log Cabin on April 28. Each year the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation and other sponsors honor area teachers for excellence. The Willie Ross School for the Deaf provides a comprehensive educational program stressing academic excellence that focuses on the development of students’ intellectual, social, and emotional growth from the early childhood level through high school. Willie Ross serves students at its main campus in Longmeadow and at its partnership campus located in the East Longmeadow Schools. Mainstreaming opportunities are provided at the partnership campus.
