services, such as mainstreaming, are offered for students
using the communication style that provides the greatest
access for the student. There may be instances
when students would be better served by maximizing
their residual hearing or cochlear implants in a setting
where sign language is not offered. The delivery
of these services is determined on an individual student
basis. Related services include those provided
within the classroom, as well as those outside of
the classroom, such as audiology and individual speech-language
therapy.
Related services reflect our communication approach
which is designed to be of maximum benefit to the
individual student. Our adoption of one language
of instruction provides a consistent setting which
ensures complete access by all of our students in
their classrooms. The provision of related services
is conducted in the methodology that is most appropriate
for the student. Application of the integrated
approach to communication best serves to meet the
varied needs of the students who attent Willie Ross
and also contributes to their academic development.
