If you choose
Willie
Ross, you will have selected a school dedicated to its
students, a school which recognizes that, in order to respond to the
unique needs of each student, different techniques and approaches must
be offered and must be welcomed.
The recommendation for
placement in a school for the deaf must be considered very
carefully. At Willie Ross School,
we understand that this
decision is one which must be made with great care, and we wish to
help. We are always available to answer any questions, and we would be
more than happy to provide you with assistance, no matter what your
final decision may be.
As a general guide, remember that any school that you choose should be
able to demonstrate its ability to respond to all of the needs of the
student, not only as they present at admission, but also as they evolve
and develop over
time. The school should be able to offer programs
through high school and prepare the student for the transition to the
next step in her or his life.
We offer the following
for your consideration as to why Willie Ross School for the Deaf would
be a good choice for a member of your family.

The Willie Ross School for the Deaf
has the capacity to respond to the needs of our students from age three
through high school. The option of being placed at one of our two
campuses allows our students to be the beneficiaries of programs which
are tailored to meet their needs on an individual basis. As their
needs change and evolve over time, the Willie Ross School has the
capacity to offer programs and services which will respond to those
changing needs.
Willie Ross School for the Deaf offers
a range of services and a range of instructional settings which are
coordinated with and follow the Massachusetts Curriculum
Frameworks.
Willie Ross
School for the Deaf offers opportunities for students to be
mainstreamed with age- appropriate hearing peers. Mainstreaming
is offered on an incremental basis to students whose particular
academic needs may be better served in an inclusionary setting.
Willie Ross School for the Deaf
offers a range of communication methods tailored to individual
needs. The methods are intended to develop fully the academic
strengths of each student. In addition, our related services
provide opportunities for the development of expressive skills through
sign language, spoken language, or through simultaneous
communication. Auditory processing skills and access to all of our
programs is enhanced by classroom soundfield systems, personal FM
units, and support for the use of residual hearing. Students with
cochlear implants receive support, including, but not limited to,
opportunities for participation in public school academic classes with
age-appropriate hearing peers.
At Willie Ross School for the Deaf we
are dedicated to offering an academic program which will maximize the
intellectual abilities of all of our students. We are interested
in advancing academic achievement, and not on advocating for any
particular communication or educational philosophy.
